Home Screen Tips
New Home screen tips widget assists new users on how to configure the home screen with shortcuts and widgets and how to make use of multiple home screens. The Phone, applications Launcher, and Browser now have dedicated shortcuts on the Home screen, making it easy to access them from any of the 5 home screen panels.
Portable Hotspots
Once you upgrade your Motorola Milestone to Android 2.2, it can be turned into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot that can be shared with up to 8 devices. You can use your Android-powered phone as a 3G connection for a Windows or Linux laptop by connecting their phone to the computer with a USB cable. The connection is then shared between the two devices. (*Requires a tethering plan)
Improved Performance
Performance of the browser has been enhanced, which enables faster loading of JavaScript-heavy pages. 2x-5x performance speedup for CPU-heavy code over Android 2.1. Faster app switching and smoother performance on memory-constrained devices. Adobe Flash 10.1 will also enhance your browsing experience.
Store Compatible Apps On Your SD Card
Increase your phone's internal memory! You can now move compatible apps to your microSD card to improve performance. By default, apps will continue to be installed on internal memory storage, however, the Settings menu offers a one touch to move the app to SD Card. You'll also have access to new apps in the Marketplace that are Android 2.2 compatible.
How To Upgrade To Android 2.2 (Froyo)
Upgrading your Motorola Milestone XT720 takes patience and some technical knowledge. If you are hesitant about perfoming the tasks listed in the printer-friendly version or the step-by-step video, please do not attempt. Our Retail Stores have Wireless Specialists, who are capable of updating your phone for you.
This upgrade is certified by Cincinnati Bell and is not a Motorola OEM certified upgrade. It is only authorized for Cincinnati Bell customers. All warranty exchanges will need to be completed through Cincinnati Bell and not through the manufacturer, Motorola. The device received in a warranty exchange will not have Android 2.2 upgrade and will require you to complete another software update. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not attempt.
To ensure you have the ideal experience, please review the following before you upgrade your phone:
- Watch the step-by-step video, in its entrity. Make sure you are comfortable with each step.
- View each step of the printer-friendly version. Make sure you are comfortable with each step.
- Download the necessary files for the updgrade. (Windows only)
- Be sure to open the file named "README.txt". It contains the Customer Name and Key that you'll asked to enter during the upgrade.
- Save the files somewhere on your computer that you can easily locate them. The files totoal approx. 324MB, so make sure you have enough available space.
Preparation and what you need to know
- Fully charge the battery.
- Close any applications before proceeding with the upgrade.
- The stored data on your phone will be erased. Be sure to backup your data using the software provided and sync your contacts with your Google account. Applications purchased or downloaded from the Android Market can be downloaded again by accessing "My Apps" in the Android Market.
- Calling and messaging functions are not available during the process.
- You'll need a USB data cable to connect your phone to your computer.
- Your phone will automatically reset during this process.
- This update will take 30+ mintues. Make sure you have enough un-interrupted time to complete all steps.
- Do not disconnect the USB data cable until the update is complete.
- Administration rights for your computer may be required for the software download.
